Highlighting Historical Romance with Sandra Masters

Thank you, Caroline, for inviting me to participate on your site. I so looked forward to the publication of my Book Six in the Duke Series, The Blue-Eyed Black-Hearted Duke and am excited to share it with you and your readers.

RedWolf-201x300 Author's Blog Highlighting History This novel was a daring departure from my comfort zone of traditional Regency Romance into the genre of Regency Fantasy Supernatural. An eighth of the way into the book, I awakened from a dream about a red wolf walking alongside a very handsome man of about thirty-years. Immediately, I went to the Book of Names and searched for a meaning. I found the Saxon name Radolf, a Christian name that signified a red wolf and added my ideas to it. He became Radolf Wolferton, Duke of Wolferton, his title, and saw the vision of the Guardians—the red wolf and the archangel. It presented endless possibilities and I followed where it led me to research the red wolf.

As the name suggests, red wolves are known for the characteristic reddish color of their fur most apparent behind the ears and along the neck and legs beautiful with blue or amber “bedroom” eyes. Of course, they were hunted until brought to the edge of extinction. Around 950 AC, kings demanded wolf skins as tribute instead of gold or silver. In the 1800s—the period of my novel—wolves would have been rare.

How do you tempt a sinner?—Offer him a saint!

Dark, dangerous, brooding and, in his opinion, unredeemable, Radolf, Duke of Wolferton, doesn’t fear death but welcomes it. Guilt-ridden because of his sinful past, the tormented hero of the Waterloo wars, honor-bound, believes he is undeserving of any woman’s love and closely guards his black heart.

Powerfully drawn to him, Jaclyn Moreux, his ward, cannot deny his allure and the sizzling attraction that grows. She is lured by his seductive charm and the danger and passion in his embrace. But a treacherous villain sets about disparaging the duke to Jaclyn with lies and half-truths.

Jaclyn vows to help Radolf conquer his demons and accept the supernatural powers that destinse their love.
