Highlighting Historical Romance with Leona Bushman on Victoriana

I have been in love with the Victorian Era for many years. It’s a time of great fashion and great strides for a middle class and more freedom for women as they began doing more than be wives or servants or courtesans. The innovation and technology leaps were amazing to me. I still love Steampunk for this reason.

In my story, language was something I came across while doing a search for something. (Probably food. Spent like two hours searching for food in the winter for Darkest Death and went with the easy stuff!) There are some wonderful sayings that I think should be brought  back.

As a writer, language always fascinates—etymology, usage, how some things don’t translate… All of it. Shakespearean times are another time where language had some interesting sayings, but here, the Victorian ones really blew me away and had me giggling. Words like “enthuzimuzzy” and “fly rink” and so many more.

I have three more Victorian stories slated to come out this year, Darkest Summer, Winter’s Rose, and Spying on Christmas. I hope you all come and join the ride!

After a lifetime of ignoring her magic, Melissa is now in danger from those who would like to steal it.

Melissa discovers her magic is very real while hiking with her friend, Rachel. She sells everything and gives up her life as a stockbroker to live in solitude to practice and learn her magic. But real life keeps intruding. Then, one stormy night a month before Beltane, John arrives.

Someone sends John to find her. He’s a private investigator and very good at his job. But when he finds her, literal sparks fly. Next thing he knows, he’s talking to cats and other animals, and they’re talking back. If that isn’t enough to believe in the magic, the spell she wove over him sure is. The heat between them is hotter than the Dismal Swamp in the Summer.

They make plans for celebrating Beltane together, and he can’t wait. However, as the time nears, he has to choose between his business and Melissa as the one who sent him to find her threatens him and the woman he’s come to love.
