Music in the Night

dukes-200x300 Owen Pritchard planned to stay only one or two nights in the big empty mansion belonging to the Duke of Glenmoor. He came bearing documents for the steward as a favor for his good friend. His plans are up ended by the strains of a Beethoven sonata echoing through the halls.

The only person he had ever heard play that masterfully was Lucia, is one love. But Lucia disappeared seven years ago, and there is no reason to expect her to be in Nether Abbas, the local village.

Annie Potter, treated as a drudge in her uncle’s vicarage, has only one joy. She sneaks out at night to play the wonderful piano forte in the Duke of Glenmoor’s music room. The cascading melodies are balm for her weary soul until a stranger interrupts per privacy and threatens her one freedom from her uncle’s scrutiny.

Owen doesn’t want to hurt her; he merely wants to talk. If only he could catch her.
